Reptar is the cartoon dinosaur from the animated series Rugrats, whom Chuckie was terrified of. It’s also the name of this bandReptar, from Athens, Georgia, has been around since 2008, but gained a whole lot of attention after playing SXSW 2011. Must Listen: Yellow Ostrich

I checked out Yellow Ostrich a few months ago when they opened for Say Hi at the The Echo in Silver Lake. They quite possibly upstaged the headliner. The band is made of lead singer and founder Alex Schaaf, with Michael Tapper doing percussions. In the live show, Schaaf records vocals, distinguishable on the record but really impressive in person, which he then loops and plays over, sometimes layering loops upon loops (more…)

Must Listen: Awolnation

What a fun little interesting operation this guy is. AWOLNATION, the solo project of Aaron Bruno, released this song ‘Sail‘ earlier this year on Red Bull Records. After a less than successful effort in the music business, Red Bull approached Bruno and offered him some time in the Red Bull Records recording studio. Needless to say kiddo took advantage of his time there, soon after releasing ‘Sail’ which debuted at #30 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. Banksy: the iPhone App

Banksy bestowed upon Sunset Blvd the pictured art just before the Oscars earlier this year. It was also the same week I moved to LA, and upon hearing of the piece I decided I was going to go drive past it. Unfortunately I couldn’t find one article that noted what cross streets it was at, didn’t understand LA traffic and, by the time I made it there, it was gone. Not happening anymore. Conceived by Simon Hassett, a huge Banksy fan, Hassett built an iPhone appto track Banksy. The app shows the locationof Banksy art around the globe, offers directions, (more…)

Like Lykke Li but with more ba ba ba base, Rainbow Arabia, a husband/wife duo out of Los Angeles, California, have released a few EPs since forming in 2008.
